Game Overview
Tong-its is exclusively for three players and employs a standard Anglo-American deck of 52 cards (excluding jokers). The cards in each suit are ranked from Ace (1 point) through to King (10 points). Notably, Aces have low value in the context of runs.

Objective
The main goal of Tong-its is to arrange cards into sets and runs while minimizing the count of unmatched cards left in hand.

• A run consists of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, such as ♥4, ♥5, ♥6.
• A set comprises three or four cards sharing the same rank, like ♥7, ♣7, ♦7.

The Deal
The dealer is chosen at random and subsequently follows the winner from previous rounds. Cards are dealt counterclockwise: thirteen cards for the dealer and twelve for each other player. The leftover deck forms the stockpile placed face down.

The Play Sequence

• Draw: Players start their turn by drawing a card from either the top of the stock or the discard pile. A card from the discard pile can only be taken if it helps form a valid meld (set or run).
• Exposing Melds: Players may reveal their valid melds during their turn; however, revealing melds when drawing from the stock is optional. A meld must be placed on the table for hands to be considered opened in some scenarios without penalties for concealed sets.
• Laying Off (Sapaw): Players can add cards to existing melds regardless of whether they have revealed their own hand. Laying off on another player’s meld restricts their ability to call Draw on their next turn.
• Discard: At the end of each turn, players must discard one card onto the discard pile face up.
